Fence repair cost in Los Angeles for 2026: leaning fences, rotted and termite-damaged posts, posts that moved on a slope, gates that sag or will not latch.

How Much Does Fence Repair Cost in Los Angeles?

Most fence repairs cost $300 to $900 in 2026 according to national figures. Small fixes like a single board, a latch or a gate adjustment run $100 to $300. Large ones, where several posts have failed or a section is lying flat, run $900 to $2,500.

These price ranges are national figures published by HomeGuide for 2026. They are not our quotes. Los Angeles labor rates, material prices and the conditions on your lot move the real number up or down. Last checked October 2026.

How much does it cost to fix a leaning fence?

The price follows the number of posts that have failed. A lean caused by one or two posts is a standard repair in the table. If most of the posts along that side are soft, it costs less to rebuild the run once than to pay for a string of separate visits.

Why is my fence leaning, and can it be fixed without replacing it?

In most cases it can. Fences in Los Angeles lean for a short list of reasons: posts rotted at ground level from daily sprinkler water, termite damage, shallow footings that a Santa Ana wind worked loose, and soil sliding slowly downhill on a slope. If the boards and rails are still good, we set new posts and hang the old fence back on them.

How much does it cost to replace a rotted fence post?

National figures put one or two posts in the $300 to $900 band. We dig out the old post with its concrete, set a new one in fresh concrete with the top sloped so water runs off, and refasten the rails. Expect more time for a post beside a block wall, on a steep bank or in a root mass.

My gate sags and will not latch. Repair or replace?

Most sagging gates can be repaired. The hinge post is the usual culprit: when it tips, the latch side drops. Dry heat also shrinks wood gates until the frame goes out of square. We reset or replace the post, brace the frame corner to corner and reposition the latch. If the frame itself is rotted or eaten by termites, a new gate is the honest answer.

How much does a contractor charge to fix a broken gate latch?

That is a minor repair, $100 to $300 in the national 2026 figures. Most fence companies charge a minimum for coming out, so it pays to have any loose pickets or a dragging gate looked at on the same trip.

My fence posts moved after a wet winter and the gate will not close. Can they be reset?

They can, but straightening them by force does not last. Los Angeles has no frost to speak of, so this is not frost heave. Posts shifted because heavy rain soaked the soil around a shallow footing, or because the slope under them crept. The fix is to remove the post and its footing and set a new one deeper, in concrete that drains away from the wood.

My fence line goes wavy every winter. Is it the soil or a bad installation?

Usually some of each. Parts of the basin and the Valley sit on clay that swells when it rains and shrinks hard through the dry season. Hillside soil also moves a little every wet year. Deep footings handle that. Shallow ones follow the ground, and a replacement built to the same depth will wave the same way.

A branch bent my aluminum fence. Do I need a whole new panel?

Not always. Some aluminum fences are assembled from separate rails and pickets, and then only the bent pieces are changed. Others are welded or factory-built panels, where the damaged panel comes out whole. Text us a photo and we can normally tell you which you have.
